It is essential that you understand the golf terms which exist, especially if you have been watching it on television. If you know these terms and the rules of golf, then you will understand the game better. Here are some familiar terms you should know.
Par
Par is referred to the standard number of shots which a golfer is expected to make to finish a hole. For instance, if the par on a hole is four, it basically means it takes four shots for the golfer to complete the hole.
Tee Box
There is usually a tee box at the start of every golf hole. It marks the point where the golfer is allowed to use a tee, ( a wooden or plastic peg which holds the ball off the ground), to hit a shot.
Green
Every hole on the golf course ends with a green which has a flag and a cup. The grass on the area of green is usually cut very short to make it difficult for an accurate shot.
Fairway
This is not defined in the golf rules, but the term is typically used to describe a shorter-mown area between the tee box and the green.
